Swedish House Mafia Return
A shiver rolls through your spine, hot tears of happiness fill your eyes as you witness your dream become a reality on this day at Ultra 2018. That’s how every Swedish House Mafia fan feels right now. This is a moment that has been five years in the making. A moment that will be recorded in the annals of dance music history.
Five years after Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello chose to walk away from the dance world as a trio they returned in spectacular style. The Swedes closed out the main stage at Ultra Music Festival’s 20th-anniversary event in Miami.
Speculation has been rife for months that Swedish House Mafia would perform together again. When Ultra announced the 2018 festival last year, fans and observers were told to ” expect the unexpected” and so they did. They began to hope, wish and wonder if the men that transformed the dance music world could be tempted. In recent weeks the hype began to build as numerous media outlets indicated that the reunion was imminent. In recent days, Hardwell, Alesso and Don Diablo commented on their social platforms about the potential reunion further sparks the rumors.
SHM Reunite At Ultra Music Festival
The hour-long set filled fans with an air of nostalgia as Swedish House Mafia opened with ‘Miami to Ibiza’. As the set progressed the trio treated the audience to the best of the best of Swedish House Mafia including ‘Greyhound’, ‘Leave the World Behind’, ‘Antidote’, ‘Save the World’ and to end, the intense and iconic ‘One’.
Their set also featured a selection of tracks from their individual projects including ‘Reload’, ‘Barrricade’, ‘Remember’ and perhaps the best of them all a mashup of ‘More Than You Know’ and ‘Payback’ midway through the set.
In the days and weeks to come there will be many questions about the longevity of this reunion, new music and of course a tour but for now, let’s just breathe. Let us bask in the glorious history that has been made by these “three friends” making the dance world right.
